SMART, the UK's leading workforce management solution provider has won the contract to supply an electronic staff rostering system to The Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust, following a recent competitive tender. The SMART eHL system will replace manual rostering methods and provide electronic self-rostering, staff scheduling and automated rostering for a range of staff groups, including medical staff.
The key drivers behind the need for a self-rostering system include; increased flexibility, improved delivery of patient care, recruitment and retention, financial savings and compliance with legislation.
The web-based SMART eHL system includes fully automated integration with ESR, the national HR & Payroll solution for the NHS. The software will be supplied on a fully hosted IT infrastructure, allowing secure access for staff for self-rostering and roster administration from any location via the internet.
"We look forward to helping the Trust achieve significant efficiencies in the area of staff rostering, which will see better utilisation of staff and skills, and an improvement to staff morale through increased control of their own working hours. The end result should be three-fold; improvements for staff, reduced costs for the Trust and ultimately better patient care", said Tristan Spencer, Director for Health Market at SMART.
He continues, "We are seeing an escalation in the awareness of electronic rostering in the NHS, and the substantial benefits to be gained across an entire trust. In the wake of the June DoH report regarding improving the use of temporary nursing staff, it is clear that Trusts are starting to understand the role of workforce planning software in controlling and managing the supply and demand for temporary nurses".
