Workforce-XML gets SMART - 01/11/2007


SMART, the pioneering workforce management software provider is today announced as one of the founding members of Workforce-XML.

Workforce-XML is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to the development and promotion of standard XML specifications for the workforce management industry. Its aim is to enable hardware and software vendors to integrate seamlessly with RFID/badge readers, biometric/hand readers and access control devices as well as other workforce management solutions.

SMART, along with other founding members Grovsner Technology (incorporating Custom Micro), Feedback Data, Kaba, Reslink, TimeLink, TMC and ZK-Software have formed Workforce-XML to resolve the issue of non-standard integration within the workforce management sector.

Commenting on the need for such a consortium Nick Whiteley, Chairman of Workforce-XML said, "In recent years the demand for standards based integration has become louder and clearer than ever before, with businesses no longer tolerating vendor "lock-ins", proprietary technologies or non-standard approaches to IT'.

He continues, ‘Today IT is used to drive strategy and reduce costs, with systems often being mission-critical to the prosperity of a business, for this reason businesses demand standards to secure their investments, reduce integration costs and lower overall costs of ownership. Being tied to any one vendor through proprietary technology is viewed as not only a financial risk, but also an operational one‘.
