Eric Smart
CEO
eric.jpgEric Smart is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of SMART and has overall responsibility for all the company's operations. Eric has over 20 years commercial experience in workforce management solutions including development of a range of consultancy services.

Having developed a specific interest in business efficiency, Eric gained an MBA at Cranfield University in 1976. He then gained experience as a Certified Accountant and Chartered Secretary which covered a wide scale of businesses including stockbroking, oil drilling, distribution and pharmaceuticals. Eric has also been the Eastern representative for the Confederation of British Industry's SME Council and has worked on the Department of Trade and Industry Company Law Review team and the CBI Tax Committee.

During the past 20 years, Eric has made numerous media appearances and spoke at many national and international conferences on subjects including annual hours, workforce management, rostering and absenteeism. Under his leadership, SMART is the leading provider for workforce management solutions.

Nick Whiteley
Managing Director (Health)
nick.jpg Nick Whiteley is the Managing Director of SMART having held key positions in the company during his 14 years with SMART. Responsible for the strategic direction of the business, Nick believes strongly in providing benefit driven solutions to the NHS that enable not only a significant reduction in costs, but also improve the quality of care through the effective e-rostering of medical and nursing staff.

Previously as Chief Technology Officer, Nick was responsible for creating the next generation enterprise workforce management solution and developing a first class hosting operation to deliver high performance and availability of SMART solutions to the enterprise. As Chairman of the Workforce-XML he also introduced standards to the industry for real time data collection. Nick holds a BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence followed by a Diploma in Occupational Studies and joined SMART in 1996.

Tristan Spencer
Sales and Marketing Director
tristan.jpg Tristan joined SMART in 1991 and became a board member in 1995. In 2007, he took on the role of Health Market Director following a restructure of the business to focus on vertical market business units. In this role Tristan is responsible for all healthcare sector operations including marketing and product strategy, sales management, channel and partner development, customer management and project delivery. Tristan holds a Diploma in Mechanical and Production Engineering, as well as a Masters in Advanced Manufacturing Systems from Kingston University.

Simon Willcock
Professional Services Director
Dr. Simon Willcock joined SMART in November 2010 as Professional Services Director and a member of the management board. Simon is responsible for Professional Services within the Health Division of SMART. In his previous role as NHS Programme Director for the £750m Electronic Staff Record (ESR) project, Simon was instrumental in leading the project to deliver an integrated HR and payroll solution to the whole of the NHS in England and Wales, the largest implementation of its type in the world.

Prior to joining the NHS project in 2001, Simon held an International post at Reuters plc where he was responsible for the delivery of a new financial data and database infrastructure for its global information products. He started his early career at Thorn EMI plc in the technology division and Central Research Laboratories, having gained a PhD from Durham University and BSc from Imperial College, London.

Nicola Preston
CEO of SMART Spain
Nicola Preston established SMART SPAIN 10 years ago. Nicola is responsible for the strategic direction of the business, which has enjoyed year on year growth over the past 10 years, unabated by the recession and establishing SMART as the leading supplier of e-Rostering and Time & Attendance solutions in Spain.

Prior to joining SMART Nicola joined Price WaterhouseCoopers in 1992, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, relocating In 1995 to PWC Madrid, specialising in M&A. In 1998 Nicola was instrumental in her position as Finance Director in successfully setting up a franchised restaurant in Madrid before joining SMART in 2000.
